100 Trees for 100 Years

Honoring a century of Cleveland Park. Planting for the next one.

The idea

Why 100 Trees?

A sloping lawn and tall trees seen past a green bridge railing.

A century ago, Cleveland Park was envisioned as a place where landscape, recreation, and community came together. Trees and plantings were part of that vision from the beginning.

As Cleveland Park enters its second century, 100 Trees for 100 Years carries that legacy forward—bringing our community together to plant 100 new trees that will shade paths, strengthen the landscape, and grow for generations.

Hurricane Helene made that work more urgent, taking more than 40 trees from the park’s canopy. But this campaign is about more than replacing what was lost.

It’s about planting something that will outlast us.

It’s about what we leave behind.

The next century

The plan: 100 new trees

The 1925 plan called for an organized planting program. This one does too. Each outline is a tree still to come. Circles fill in only when an editor publishes a verified count.

HOW THE IDEA TOOK ROOT

A new chapter in a Greenville tradition of stewardship.

100 Trees for 100 Years began with an idea from Greenville native Jessica Wyche: celebrate Cleveland Park's first century by planting something for its second.

Jessica grew up in a family with a deep tradition of conservation, public service and investment in Greenville's shared spaces. The idea carries that tradition forward for another generation.
